Hajj al-Tamattu
For those performing Hajj al-Tamattu, once you complete Umrah, it is recommended (Mustahabb) to take a shower, cut your nails, and trim your moustache before donning the Ihram garments again. Women can wear modest Islamic clothing with a scarf of any color; however, hands and faces should remain uncovered.
Before the morning of the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, perform two rak’ahs of nafl salah, set a new niyyah (intention) for Hajj, recite Talbiyah, and re-enter the state of Ihram. While it is ideal to do this at Masjid al-Haram, performing these rituals at your place of residence is also acceptable. Importantly, there is no need to travel to the nearest Miqat (Masjid Aisha) to enter Ihram.
Hajj al-Qiran or Hajj al-Ifrad
If you are engaged in Hajj al-Qiran or Hajj al-Ifrad, you remain in Ihram from your Umrah through to the completion of Hajj. Normal showering is permitted, but remember to avoid any scented products that might violate Ihram restrictions.
Departure for Mina
Travel to Mina typically occurs before the Dhuhr prayer. It is sunnah to depart after sunrise on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah as practiced by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Recitation of Talbiyah is encouraged during this journey. Although group leaders often organize travel to Mina after Isha salah the previous night, traveling in the morning helps fulfill a sunnah.
Walking to Mina
If opting to walk from Makkah to Mina, the journey starts from the pedestrian tunnels between Safa and Marwa, leading directly to Jamarat in Mina. The total distance is approximately 8 kilometers (about 5 miles), taking around 2 hours. Ensure:
- – You are physically capable of completing the walk without compromising your Hajj activities.
- – You remain with your group to avoid getting lost.
- – Women are accompanied by a Mahram.
- – You avoid using taxis or private coaches as navigating to the camps can be challenging due to checkpoints.
Arrival and Stay in Mina
Known as “Tent City,” Mina hosts over 100,000 air-conditioned tents providing accommodation to pilgrims. Upon arrival:
- – Familiarize yourself with landmarks around your camp to navigate easily.
- – Inside Mina, you’ll perform shortened (Qasr) prayers for Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha as a traveler would.
Accommodation in Mina
Accommodation is pre-assigned based on the pilgrim’s country of origin. Camps and streets are well-numbered, which helps in navigation
